Facts and practical information
The Barrack Wilhelmine Documentation and Learning Site is a museum facility in Schwanewede in the Osterholz district of Lower Saxony. It is located in a historic barrack building from the National Socialist era and is situated in the Schwanewede village of Neuenkirchen on the site of a former Nazi labor camp, near the submarine bunker Valentin on the Unterweser.
The exhibition project, which opened in 2007/2008 and has been continuously expanded since then, documents the eventful history of the site - as a labor camp, naval hospital, Neuenkirchen Protestant Hospital and, most recently, Bundeswehr barracks - from the Nazi era to the present. Barrack Wilhelmine is also a memorial to the forced laborers of the Nazi labor camp as well as the victims of the Farge concentration camp and the construction of the Valentin submarine bunker in Bremen-Rekum. A separate exhibition area deals with the topic "Lebensborn". The documentation and learning site is run by the Heimatverein Heimatfreunde Neuenkirchen e. V. which is based in Schwanewede-Neuenkirchen.
The barracks building has been a listed building since 2006.
