Europäisches Spargelmuseum, Schrobenhausen
Facts and practical information
The European Asparagus Museum in Schrobenhausen in Upper Bavaria is a special museum.
The European Asparagus Museum was initiated by Klaus Englert and initially put together by the "Friends of the Schrobenhausen Museums e.V." sponsoring association in 1985 under the name German Asparagus Museum and opened by the town of Schrobenhausen on May 13, 1985.
Already in 1991, the asparagus museum was comprehensively expanded. Because of its far-reaching significance, it has since been run as the European Asparagus Museum. The museum is housed in the former Amtsturm, a two-story building of the medieval city wall in the southwest of the old town. Special plows and a sample asparagus field can be seen in the open space in the castle park.
Among other things, the museum was honored by the Council of Europe in 1993 as one of the ten best special museums in Europe. Numerous other awards followed, including - in 2006 - as one of the first "Landmarks in the Land of Ideas" by German President Horst Köhler.
