Evangelische Kirche Fronhausen
Facts and practical information
The Lutheran church in Fronhausen, Central Hesse, is a choir tower church whose oldest elements were built in the 12th century. Today it is the preaching place of the Evangelical Lutheran congregation of Fronhausen and belongs to the parish Unteres Lahntal II and thus to the church district of Marburg in the regional church of Kurhessen-Waldeck.
The first documented mention is for the year 1159, whereby the lower wall sections of the nave indicate an older predecessor building. A special feature is the late Gothic tower crowned by the "Fronhäuser Kegelspiel". In addition to parts of the old defensive wall, there are still rudiments of the defensive ditch. Furthermore, there are grave monuments and gravestones from the 16th to the 18th century inside and outside the church. Although the church is often referred to as a fortified church, it would be more accurate to call it a fortified church.
