The Christ the King Institute of Meitingen was founded in 1919 by the Freiburg priest Max Josef Metzger as the "Missionary Society of the White Cross" in Graz and moved to Meitingen near Augsburg in 1928. It now bore the name "Christkönigsgesellschaft" and received ecclesiastical recognition as a secular institute in the Roman Catholic Church in 1969. Thereafter, it bore the name "Christkönigs-Institut".
