Stadtgarten, Dortmund
Facts and practical information
The Stadtgarten Dortmund is an inner-city park and green space in Dortmund.
The park is located southwest of Dortmund's city hall and the light rail station of the same name, and is one of two green spaces within the city's former ramparts.
The city garden was created in 1982 for the 1100th anniversary of the city in the area between Hansastraße and Stadthaus. Nikolaistraße, Vaerststraße and southern Balkenstraße were thus omitted. The area was built on until World War II and then served as a market square and green strip. Northeast of the Stadtgarten is Friedensplatz with the town hall.
The center of the park is the Gauklerbrunnen, designed by Prof. Eberhard Linke. About 30 meters long and up to 12 meters wide, the fountain overcomes a height difference of 4 meters. The water flows in cascades from the spring basin into the lower fountain basin. Here stand the eponymous bronze juggler figures, which spray the fountain water in different ways. The fountain is often used by children as a paddling and bathing pool in the summer.
Southwest of the Gauklerbrunnen, a skate park is available to mostly youth users.
