Konzert- und Kongresshalle Bamberg, Bamberg
Facts and practical information
The Bamberg Concert and Congress Hall is a concert and event hall in Bamberg. It is the home of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra - Bavarian State Philharmonic Orchestra, one of the leading German symphony orchestras. In addition, it is used for conferences, congresses, trade fairs and exhibitions as well as lecture, podium and music events of various kinds. Connected to the whole complex are two hotels.
The Bamberg Concert Hall was inaugurated in 1993. Built near the old town directly on the eastern bank of the Regnitz River, it forms an urban ensemble with neighboring historic buildings such as the city archive and the former hospital. Important lines of sight lead to well-known cultural buildings in Bamberg, above all to the Kaiserdom zu Bamberg located on the Domberg and the Michelsberg Monastery, which is also elevated. In 2009, the concert hall underwent extensive modernization and renovation, which included the extension of the foyer by two new glass annexes as well as a new color concept inside the building and a redesign of the hall forecourt.
The Bamberg Concert Hall houses two halls: the concert hall called Joseph-Keilberth-Saal, which seats around 1,400 people, and the smaller Hegel-Saal, which is an event hall that can hold up to 700 people. Together with the foyers, the concert hall has premises of more than 6,000 m². The concert hall is owned by the city of Bamberg and operated by Bamberg Congress + Event GmbH, which also runs the Brose Arena in the south of the city.
