Kniphausen Castle in Fedderwarden in the urban area of Wilhelmshaven in Lower Saxony was built in 1438 and eventually had "the typical appearance of a noble seat of the late Renaissance". In 1666/67, it was expanded into a fortress with four corner bastions.
