Church of the Holy Spirit, Regen
Facts and practical information
The Church of the Holy Spirit is a former hospital church at Heilig-Geist-Gasse 19 in Regen.
The hospital church, donated by Hans von Degenberg, was built in late Gothic style from 1421 to 1425. In the 18th century it underwent significant changes. It received a baroque interior and a ridge turret.
Around 1425 the hospital "Heilig-Geist" was built, which together with the church and the hospital yard formed the village "Heilig Geist". The village was subordinated to the lordship and from the beginning of the 17th century to the ducal court in Weißenstein. When the municipalities were formed in the 19th century, Heilig-Geist became part of the municipality of Eggenried. It was not until January 1, 1918 that Heilig-Geist was incorporated into the then market town of Regen.
