The New Theater in the seaport city of Emden in East Frisia is a house without its own ensemble and the largest theater in the city of Emden. It was built in 1970 and holds 680 people for drama and 600 for musical theater. It has a large foyer and modern dressing rooms for artists. It is used for events in the fields of drama, musical theater and shows, but also for conferences and congresses. It also serves as the auditorium of the JAG Emden. According to the city of Emden, the catchment area of the theater is approximately 110 kilometers, corresponding to 300,000 people. The theater is the venue for the Landesbühne Niedersachsen Nord and the Emden-Norderney International Film Festival.
