Rathaus Großenhain, Großenhain
Facts and practical information
The town hall in Großenhain was built from 1873 to 1876 and is considered a landmark of the town, along with Großenhain's Marienkirche.
As early as 1492, there was a town hall with a taproom, meat and bread benches and salt chamber on the south side of the large market square in Großenhain. In 1872 this building was destroyed by a city fire and by 1876 it was replaced by a new building designed by the Dresden architects Bruno Adam and Oswald Haenel with a façade in the Neo-Renaissance style made of sandstone. To this day, the building houses the city's administration.
