Naturschutzgebiet Weißenhäuser Brök

The Weißenhäuser Brök is a nature reserve in the Schleswig-Holstein municipality of Wangels in the Ostholstein district.
The nature reserve of about 57 hectares is registered with the number 42 in the register of nature reserves of the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Areas of Schleswig-Holstein. It was designated in 1942. The nature reserve is part of the FFH area "Strandseen der Hohwachter Bucht". The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Ostholstein.
The nature reserve is located northwest of Oldenburg in Holstein. It protects a dune landscape in the southeast of Hohwachter Bucht and part of the offshore beach. The area is characterized by dunes that are predominantly grassed over and covered with heath. In some places there are bushes. The Oldenburger Graben drains through the nature reserve into the Hohwachter Bucht.
The dunes provide a habitat for a species-rich plant and animal world. Plants and animals are often particularly drought and heat-loving. For example, numerous ferns and flowering plants have been recorded here, including sea thistle, stemless creeping thistle, dyer's broom, quaking grass, heather, broom heath, lesser meadow rue, and greater knotweed. Salt-loving and salt-tolerant plants such as sea mustard, salt weed, salt chickweed, and sea kale also grow along the flushing fringes. The nature reserve has special importance for invertebrates such as beetles, wild bees, digger wasps, spiders and grasshoppers.
Parts of the nature reserve are grazed by Scottish Highland cattle.
To the south, the land protection dike borders on the nature reserve or passes through it. The area between the nature reserve and the nature reserve "Wesseker See", which lies somewhat to the south, is used for tourism. A camping site and the vacation and leisure park Weissenhäuser Strand are located here. Several paths to the beach run through the dune landscape.
The area is managed by the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Geobotanik in Schleswig-Holstein und Hamburg.
