Three Triangles, Bremen
Facts and practical information
The sculpture Three Triangles, also called Outdoor Piece for Bremen, is located in Bremen's Neustadt at the north end of the Teerhof. It is included in the list of monuments and statues of the city of Bremen.
The sculpture made of sand-lime brick on a concrete base was created by the American artist Sol LeWitt. It was erected on the Bürgermeister-Smidt Bridge in 1994 after an exhibition of his sculptural works from 1993 at the Weserburg Museum of Modern Art. It was a gift from the artist to the museum on the occasion of this exhibition. As a permanent work of art, it was made possible by donations from the Friends of the Museum.
According to the cultural authority, the artist's Bremen sculpture "takes up the distinctive shape of the gables of the museum building and the buildings of the Schlachte, which also appear in the logo of the Museum Weserburg."
Sol LeWitt is one of the most internationally known representatives of Conceptual Art, who exhibited several times at the documenta in Kassel. His works are based on a minimalist constructivism of the Bauhaus, including the work Black Form, which has been on display in Hamburg-Altona since 1989.
