The Maximilian Fountain stands on the Maximiliansplatz square in Bamberg. The fountain takes its name from the Bavarian King Maximilian I Joseph and was created by Ferdinand von Miller in 1888. The casting of the statues took place in 1880.
King Max I Joseph stands on the main fountain pillar, flanked by personalities significant for the city of Bamberg: Henry II, 973-1024, founder of the bishopric of Bamberg; Cunegonde of Luxembourg, 980-1033, wife of Henry II; Otto I of Bamberg, 1060-1139, canonized bishop of Bamberg; Conrad III, 1093-1152, German king, born and died in Bamberg.
