Facts and practical information

Staufer stelae are octagonal memorial stones commemorating the Staufers, who were Roman-German kings and emperors in the High Middle Ages. The sculptor of these monuments is Markus Wolf from Stuttgart-Plieningen.

The first Staufer stele was inaugurated on December 13, 2000, the 750th anniversary of the death of the last Staufer emperor Frederick II, in the ruins of Castel Fiorentino in Italy. Stelae followed in Germany, France, Austria, the Czech Republic and the Netherlands. Between 2002 and 2018, the inscriptions on the stelae were designed by the Committee of Friends of the Staufer.
