Historiensäule, Koblenz
Facts and practical information
The history column is the main part of a fountain on the Josef-Görres-Platz in the old town of Koblenz. It was donated to the city in 1992 by the state of Rhineland-Palatinate for the 2000th anniversary. However, it was not completed and handed over to the city until June 1, 2000. The fountain with history column was created by the sculptor Jürgen Weber. The 10.59 meter high, 3.6 ton heavy and 1.25 million DM expensive column tells the moving 2000-year history of the city of Koblenz in ten pictures from Roman times to the present.
From 1884 until its removal shortly after World War II, the Goeben Monument stood in the same place, in honor of Prussian General August Karl von Goeben.
