Facts and practical information
The Funkenburg Open-Air Archaeological Museum - the reconstruction of a Germanic fortified settlement, unique in Germany - is located on a flat mountain spur, steeply sloping on three sides, on the outskirts of West Prussia. Scheduled excavations of the Germanic fortified settlement were carried out from 1974 to 1980.
The Funkenburg was inhabited between 200 BC and AD 50. The fortified settlement was fortified with palisades, ramparts and ditches to the northwest. The museum was opened in 2003.
