Heimatturm, Colditz
Facts and practical information
The Heimatturm, originally Heimats-Turm, is a 20 m high brick lookout tower on the Töpelsberg south of the town of Colditz in the Saxon district of Leipzig. It was built in 1901 on the occasion of the 1st Colditzer Heimatfest in the extremely short construction time of ten weeks. At the time of its inauguration on July 20, 1901, the Heimatturm was 18.7 meters high. Due to a lightning strike on June 3, 1903, the upper part of the tower was severely destroyed. Since its reconstruction, it is now 20 m high.
The viewing platform of the listed tower offers a good panoramic view of Colditz, the Mulde Valley and the surrounding villages.
