Dorfkirche Groß Zicker, Gager
Facts and practical information
The village church of Groß Zicker is the Protestant parish church of the parish of Groß Zicker on the Mönchgut peninsula of the island of Rügen. Worth seeing, besides the church itself, is the old cemetery with the Jakobstein.
The choir room was probably built around 1350, the nave somewhat later. Eldena Monastery acquired Mönchgut in 1360; the purchase deed mentions an ecclesia sive capella in Groß Zicker. This would make the church the oldest building on Mönchgut.
From 1878 to 1906 Emil Steurich was pastor at the church. As a writer, he wrote stories about the history of Rügen.
