Hochstein
Facts and practical information
Hochstein is a mountain in the Königshain Mountains in eastern Upper Lusatia, west of the city of Görlitz in the district of Görlitz. It is located northwest of the municipality of Königshain.
The Hochstein is 397.2 meters high and thus the second highest elevation of the Königshain mountains after the 415-meter-high Ahlberg in the Kämpferberge. In the summit area there is a mountain inn, an observation tower and some free-standing rock towers made of Upper Carboniferous Königshain granite, which here shows a clearly pronounced woolbag weathering, that have been spared from quarry operations. The observation tower is a 22-meter high steel structure with a round viewing platform. On the tree of the observation tower, hangs a summit box since December 24, 2021. There visitors, hikers, cyclists, etc. can sign in. The Hochstein can be reached via a road closed to public traffic and several hiking trails.
Over the Hochstein runs the European long-distance hiking trail E10 in the section Niesky-Löbau and the Way of St. James in the section Görlitz-Weißenberg-Bautzen.
