The Cranach Monument on Wartburgallee, below the Wartburg in the southern quarter of Eisenach commemorates Hans Lucas von Cranach, an important patron of Eisenach culture, co-founder of the Wartburg Foundation, the Thuringian Museum and the Reuter-Wagner Museum. He was an orderly officer of the Grand Duke of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach, Carl-Alexander and initially in his service from 1894 to 1929 castle captain of the Wartburg.
The monument in the style of a tombstone shows the Cranach family coat of arms, a winged lindworm, in a medallion-like upper part.
The inscriptions are placed in the center: above the lindworm: IN MEMORIAM, below the motto: JE GETREUER - JE GETROSTER, below: v.CRANACH
