Facts and practical information
Wichernhaus in Altdorf was built from 1571 to 1575 as a grammar school, later elevated as an academy, and was subsequently transformed into a university. In 1925 the building was sold, used as an institution for the physically handicapped and from then on named Wichernhaus after Johann Hinrich Wichern, although the term is now also used for the entire institution. Since 1925, the Wichernhaus Special Education Center has been part of the Rummelsberg Institutions. Today, children, adolescents and adults with physical or multiple disabilities live there.
