Facts and practical information
The First German Tile Museum Boizenburg is an art and technology museum in Boizenburg/Elbe. It was opened in 1998 and is housed in the building Reichenstraße 4 in the center of Boizenburg's old town.
The museum primarily collects early industrial tiles in the style of Historicism, Art Nouveau and Art Deco and organizes an annual international tile collectors' fair. The co-founder was the tile artist Lothar Scholz.
On an area of about 500 m², it shows wall and floor tiles of the manufacturers "Steingut- und Mosaikfabrik Villeroy & Boch" and "Boizenburger Platten, Duensing-Bicherox-Werke" in a permanent exhibition. Temporary exhibitions are designed to provide in-depth insights into the manufacturing history of tiles and tile art.
The sponsor of the museum is the non-profit association "Erstes Deutsches Fliesenmuseum Boizenburg e.V." founded in 1995.
