A pedunculate oak - dead in 1998 - in / near Ratekau in Schleswig-Holstein is called a flowering oak, which is protected as a natural monument.
Under the oak tree the Prussian Field Marshal Blücher and the French Marshal Bernadotte met after signing the surrender document in the Ratekauer Pastorate on November 7, 1806. There the Prussian soldiers marched past the French troops, laid down their arms and went into captivity.
Remember the event
a memorial stone erected by a Schwartau citizen in 1856 at the oak tree with the inscription "Blücher 6/7 November 1806". a memorial stone erected in the 1970s showing the life data and a relief of Field Marshal General Blücher.
A new oak has been planted next to the dead oak. The flowering oak is found in the coat of arms of the municipality of Ratekau.
