Schäferkämper Wassermühle
Facts and practical information
Schäferkämper Wassermühle is a flour mill on the southern outskirts of Bad Westernkotten, a district of Erwitte in North Rhine-Westphalia. The mill is driven by the water of the Osterbach, which rises about one kilometer above the mill. It has two upper-bladed water wheels, which drive two grain grinding gears. The mill was built in 1748, the commercial milling operation lasted until 1933. After the death of the last owner in 1989, the mill was acquired by the North Rhine-Westphalia Foundation, restored by the Heimatfreunde Bad Westernkotten with the support of the Foundation and set up as a museum. Both grinders are in working order. Every Saturday, the grist mill is put into operation on the occasion of the regularly scheduled mill tour.
