The Sababurg Zoo is a wildlife park at the Sababurg in the Reinhardswald in the district of Kassel in northern Hesse. It was established as a zoo in 1571 and has been known as the Sababurg Zoo since 1973. With an area of about 130 hectares, it is one of the largest and oldest wildlife parks in Europe. Long oak avenues run through the park, which is bordered to the west by the Sababurg primeval forest. The park is also home to native animal species threatened with extinction and species-appropriate husbandry is strived for through generously designed outdoor enclosures.
