The mountain cemetery on Tübingen's Galgenberg was officially opened in 1950 and has been the city's main cemetery ever since as one of fourteen cemeteries. Even before that, due to a lack of space in the city cemetery located in the Käsenbach Valley, the first burials had to be made on the Galgenberg near the Kalleehöhe during the Second World War.
