Bronzeplastik Fritz Reuter, Rostock
Facts and practical information
The list contains the monuments, fountains and sculptures in the Hanseatic city of Rostock in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. It is limited to the recording of objects in public space. The oldest preserved works of art are the relief figures at St. Mary's Church from the 14th century and atonement stones from the 16th century. Due to the historical circumstances - the National Socialist era, Stalinism, the GDR era, the post-reunification period - there have been repeated politically motivated destructions of works of art and monuments. More recently, some works of art were damaged by theft or vandalism.
Most of the objects are concentrated in the historic city center, but there have always been commissioned works for artists, often with a corresponding political background, in the new residential areas built during the GDR era as well. After the fall of the Wall in 1989/90 and with the start of large-scale reconstruction and renovation work in all parts of the city, many new works of art were added, some of which were also commissioned by private individuals and companies.
A rough thematic classification divides the list. Within the thematic list, the objects have been sorted chronologically according to their origin. The exact location is georeferenced under the abbreviation Koord.
