The market's name, which translates to "Christ Child Market," is derived from the traditional opening ceremony, where the Christkind, a symbolic gift-bringer often portrayed by a local young woman in angelic garb, delivers a prologue to mark the commencement of the festivities.

With over 180 wooden stalls adorned with red-and-white striped canopies, the market presents a picturesque scene straight out of a storybook. Vendors offer an array of traditional wares, including handcrafted ornaments, wooden toys, and seasonal delicacies like Lebkuchen (gingerbread), Bratwurst, and Glühwein (mulled wine).
