Facts and practical information
The Silke beech is a tree natural monument on the edge of the Schorfheide near Groß Schönebeck, east of the Pinnow lakes. The age of the copper beech was estimated at 250 to 300 years. Its trunk circumference was about 6.55 meters, the crown diameter about 25 meters. Its height was given as 35 meters. According to the head forester Groß Schönebeck, the fallen tree should remain lying.
On July 28, 2021, the white-rotted Silke beech broke apart. At first only two parts of the crown, at the end of August the remaining part followed. Only one green branch remained to the tree.
