Facts About Turon
Turon, also known as lumpiang saging, is a cherished Filipino snack that is both delicious and easy to prepare. The traditional recipe involves thinly slicing bananas, coating them in brown sugar, wrapping them in spring roll wrappers, and frying them to a crispy golden brown. However, bananas aren't the only option—you can also stuff turon with jackfruit, sweet potato, mango, cheddar cheese, or coconut for a delightful twist.
This delectable treat is a staple of Philippine street food and is often sold alongside other favorites like banana cue (caramelized bananas on a stick), camote cue (caramelized sweet potatoes on a stick), and maruya (banana fritters).
Intriguingly, in Malabon, the term "turrón" or "turon" refers to an entirely different dessert. Here, it consists of a fried lumpia wrapper filled with sweet mung bean paste. Conversely, the banana-filled version is known as valencia. Malabon’s unique take on banana turon, called valencia trianggulo, features a distinctive triangle shape, offering a fun variation of the classic treat.
