Siklawica, Tatra National Park
Facts and practical information
Siklawica - waterfall in the Western Tatras, in the upper part of the Strążyska Valley, under the northern wall of Giewont. Waterfall falls from two almost vertically inclined walls. This is a two-part waterfall.Height of the lower part is 12 m, the upper also 12 m. A short distance above the upper part is still the third part with a height of 9 m. Between the upper and lower part of the waterfall, there is a rock shelf where the impact of water and rock fragments washed out a cavity filled with water, the so-called evaporative basin.
The name of the waterfall comes from Siklawa in the Valley of Five Polish Lakes. Formerly it was also called Siczącą, Siczawa, Siklawa. It was visited from the very beginning of tourism in the Tatra Mountains. Ludwik Zejszner wrote about it in 1849: "...worthy of being seen by all means". The waterfall is located in one of the two upper branches of the Strążyska Valley called Mała Dolinka, through which - and further down the very steep Warzecha Canyon - once led the shortest tourist path from Zakopane to Giewont.
