Iowa State Fairgrounds
The Iowa State Fairgrounds is located on the east side of Des Moines, Iowa. It annually hosts the Iowa State Fair in late summer. The state fair was begun in Iowa in 1854 and the current fairgrounds were established in 1886.

It is located in the middle of Waterworks Park in central Des Moines. During dry stints, the surface of the site would become cracked and take on an other-worldly look, hence the name.
