The Sontheim Jewish Cemetery is a Jewish cemetery in Sontheim, a district of Heilbronn in northern Baden-Württemberg. It is a cultural monument worthy of protection.
The cemetery, a community cemetery for the Jewish communities of Sontheim, Talheim and Horkheim, is located in the Gewann Schozach and is 2937 m² in size. It was established in 1841-1844 and substantially expanded in 1912. Before 1842, the dead of the Jewish community of Sontheim were buried in the Jewish cemetery of Affaltrach.
Of the total of 308 gravestones, of which about 120 are of Talheim Jews, the oldest is dated 1842, the youngest 1943. Among the persons buried in the cemetery is the physician Ludwig Essinger. A gravestone from 1420 found in 1855 during excavation work for the Heilbronn Karlshafen on the Neckar River is set into the southern cemetery wall, a remnant of the late medieval second Jewish cemetery in Heilbronn, which was located across the Neckar River from the city.
In the period between April 20, 2017 and May 2, 2017, the Jewish Cemetery was desecrated. A total of ten gravestones and memorial stones were damaged in the process. Property damage in the amount of 4,000 euros was incurred.
