Reschenstein Castle is located on a wooded ridge, flowed around in a loop by the Ilz River, not far from the Passau district of Hals. The high medieval complex with a square keep was first mentioned in a written source in 1384 as an outwork of Hals Castle. The complex is listed as a ground monument under the file number D-2-7446-0018 in the Bavarian Atlas as "underground medieval and early modern findings and finds in the area of the Reschenstein castle ruins". Likewise, it is listed as an architectural monument of Hals under file number D-2-62-000-686.
