Schwarzer Berg, Eschweiler
Facts and practical information
The Schwarze Berg is a slag heap about 50 meters high, overgrown with mainly birch trees in the Eschweiler Stadtwald in the Aachen city region. On its top, located at 250.1 meters above sea level, there is a wooden cross and a lookout point, from which there is a good view to the east over the Eschweiler city center and districts of Bergrath, Hastenrath and Weisweiler. Its base area is about 20 hectares. There are about 120 steps leading up to its top and it is considered a landmark of the Eschweiler mining industry. There is a shelter at the foot of the stairs.
