Töpfereimuseum, Langerwehe
Facts and practical information
The pottery museum is located in Langerwehe in the district of Düren, North Rhine-Westphalia.
Several potteries are still in operation in Langerwehe today. The history of the Wehter Döppesbäcker is recorded in the pottery museum.
The municipality bought the old vicarage in the 1930s. It was to serve for the exhibition of the Josef Schwarz collection. The reconstruction was interrupted by the Second World War. In 1950 the work continued. In addition to the exhibition, a workshop and a lecture hall were now designed. From 1975, the museum, which until then had been run on a voluntary basis, was managed by a full-time scientist.
In the museum, information is provided on the dangerous mining of clay underground and the risky firing in the stoneware kiln. A total of eight rooms provide information about the diverse products and techniques of clay working and processing.
In addition to the permanent exhibition, many regular events are held, such as the pottery market. In the special ambience of the museum, the municipality also performs wedding ceremonies.
