St. Joseph, Düsseldorf
Facts and practical information
The Catholic parish church of St. Joseph in Düsseldorf-Holthausen is a neo-Gothic church built from 1905 by Wilhelm Sültenfuß with exterior walls of exposed brick.
Until 1872, Holthausen was a rural community and belonged to the parish of Itter. Due to industrialization, especially the settlement of Henkel, the population grew rapidly towards the end of the 19th century. The foundation stone for the church was laid in 1904, right next to the factory buildings. In 1905, the choir and transept were built. The second construction phase followed in 1913, during which the nave in particular was built. A special feature of the church is that it was built without a tower. The bells are located in a ridge turret. From 1976 to 1979 the church was restored, followed by further conservation in the 1990s.
The parish of the same name belongs to the pastoral unit Düsseldorfer Rheinbogen.
