Agnes-Miegel-Haus, Bad Nenndorf
Facts and practical information
The Agnes Miegel House in Bad Nenndorf was the home of the writer Agnes Miegel from 1953 to 1964. Today it houses a literary museum commemorating the author's life and work. Due to Agnes Miegel's advocacy of National Socialism, a debate arose throughout Germany about renaming the properties named after her - however, since the Agnes Miegel House is currently privately owned, it will probably not be renamed.
After fleeing from East Prussia in February 1945 and staying in a Danish refugee camp, Agnes Miegel settled in Bad Nenndorf. The municipality granted her a lifelong right of residence in the house, which soon became a center of attraction for friends and admirers. Numerous poems and stories were written here. After her death in 1964, the house was acquired by the Agnes Miegel Society, founded in 1969, and set up as a literary museum. In the original living and working quarters, pictures, books, documents and personal objects tell of the poet's life.
