Schloss Philippsruhe, Hanau
Facts and practical information
Philippsruhe Palace was built from about 1700 to 1725 for Count Philipp Reinhard of Hanau near Kesselstadt as a Baroque palace in the west of the city of Hanau.
Its present appearance is largely due to alterations made during the Wilhelminian period: Landgrave Friedrich Wilhelm von Hessen-Rumpenheim only lived in the palace for four years, which is little in view of the five years of alterations that preceded it; however, the rooms on the "Bel Etage", which are now occupied by the History Museum, dominantly reflect his taste in the Renaissance style, despite the fact that much of the furnishings have been lost.
