Pelzerhäuser, Emden
Facts and practical information
The Pelzerhäuser are two buildings on Pelzerstrasse in the old town of Emden. The two houses are among the oldest buildings in the city and are the only ones in the old town that survived the heavy bombing of Emden on September 6, 1944. Their architectural style today gives an impression of the appearance of Emden's old town before the bombing - it was characterized by buildings from the 16th and 17th centuries.
Today, the Pelzer Houses house a branch of the East Frisian State Museum. The houses are located at Pelzerstrasse number 11 and 12.
Pelzerhaus 11: Three-story residential building rebuilt in 1909 in the style of its 16th-century predecessor, with reused original parts. Pelzerhaus 12: Built in the second half of the 16th century. Now only the three-story brick facade with volute gable survives. The associated house was replaced by a new building in 1983.
In the Pelzerhäuser temporary exhibitions are held, and there is also a café.
