Church of St. Michael, Eberbach
Facts and practical information
The Evangelical Church of St. Michael in Eberbach in the Rhine-Neckar district in northwestern Baden-Württemberg was built between 1835 and 1841. The renaming from "Evangelische Stadtkirche" to "Michaelskirche", which took place only in 1976, goes back to the erroneous assumption that a late medieval chapel consecrated to St. Michael had stood on the same site. This misunderstanding arose from confusion in the written history of the town. In fact, on the site of today's St. Michael's Church there were two chapels dedicated to St. Mary in succession. Only in the Catholic church located elsewhere in the city there was an altar of St. Michael.
