Klunkhardshof, Rüdesheim
Facts and practical information
The Klunkhardshof is one of the oldest buildings in Rüdesheim am Rhein. The large late medieval half-timbered house was built in the middle of the 15th century.
The Klunkhard family was a respected and obviously wealthy middle-class family, from which a number of church dignitaries emerged, including an abbot of the Eberbach monastery. The family name later gave its name to the half-timbered house, which was previously called "Haus zum Loch" because of the ground-level passage.
The Dries family, who acquired the building in 1906 and still own it today, exposed the half-timbering, which had been plastered over in the mid-19th century, in 1912, restoring the original front elevation.
