Vorderburg, Rüdesheim
Facts and practical information
The Vorderburg is located in the old town of Rüdesheim am Rhein on the southwestern edge of the market in the Rheingau-Taunus district in Hesse. Since 2002, the Vorderburg has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley.
The first mention of a noble family dates back to 1189. Later the castle became the property of the Brömser von Rüdesheim. The castle was probably destroyed by French soldiers in 1640, just like the Brömser castle. From the old castle only the almost square defense tower is preserved. Around 1663, a residential building was added to the tower.
