Augustinerplatzbrunnen, Aachen
Facts and practical information
The Augustinerplatzbrunnen is a fountain on the square called Augustinerplatz between Kockerellstraße - Judengasse and Annuntiatenbach in Aachen, where the Augustinian monastery of Aachen was located until 1802.
It consists of four rectangular concrete basins, the lower three of which are arranged at right angles to the first basin, three concrete gutters that channel the water from basin to basin, and a stele surrounded by four permanently mounted steel stools diagonally below the last basin that shapes the perception of the fountain. The stele was sculpted in sandstone in 1971 by 65 architecture students under the direction of Elmar Hillebrand, at the time a professor in the Department of Sculpture at RWTH Aachen University.
