Sankt Birgitta, Glowe
Facts and practical information
Glowe Chapel is a 20th-century church building in Glowe on the island of Rügen.
The chapel, which is used by the Lutheran parishes of Altenkirchen and Wiek belonging to the Stralsund Provostry of the Pomeranian Evangelical Church District, was built in 1981. The architect was H. Henke. On October 19, 1982 the church, whose construction was financed by the Bremen Church and the Swedish Church, was consecrated.
The west wall of the church hall, built in the form of a Finnish hut, is glazed. In the churchyard there are two other buildings built in the style of Finnish huts: the bell tower with its three bells arranged one above the other, and a community room. All three buildings are thatched.
In 2007, the chapel was named after Birgitta of Sweden on Reformation Day.
