Aussichtsturm auf dem Wingertsberg, Dietzenbach
Facts and practical information
The Dietzenbach lookout tower is a landmark of Dietzenbach.
The Dietzenbach observation tower was designed by architect Wolfgang Rang and built in 2001. It is a 33-meter-high tubular steel structure with a viewing platform at a height of 21 meters, to which a left-turning spiral staircase with 119 steps leads. The circular platform is eccentrically attached to the tower shaft and has a diameter of 8.5 meters. Above the observation deck of the tower are two horizontally arranged metal spoked wheels. The lower one is mutually eccentric to the platform, the upper one concentrically attached to the tower shaft. The latter is externally bladed and can rotate in windy conditions, earning the tower the nickname Helicopter Tower. The entire structure is stabilized by eight thick steel cables braced from the lower spoked wheel to the ground, four of which pass through the floor of the observation platform, helping to stabilize it.
From the viewing platform, you have a good view of the surrounding countryside. In good weather, you can see Frankfurt am Main, about 12 kilometers away, and the Taunus Mountains behind it.
