Seliger Bernhard, Forbach
Facts and practical information
The Church of Blessed Bernard is a Catholic parish church in Gausbach.
Already in 1804 and 1820, permission to build a chapel in Gausbach was unsuccessfully sought from the princely high office. So the faithful continued to attend the church in Forbach. In 1918, a chapel building fund was established from donations and deposits, but again the efforts to build were unsuccessful. It was not until 1947 that the donation of a large building plot brought about a turnaround, so that the church could be built in the years from 1954 to 1956.
The church is dedicated to Blessed Margrave Bernhard II of Baden and has room for 450 believers. Of particular interest is the large window painting in the choir loft, designed by Rainer Dorwarth with themes from the Revelation of John and the Apocalypse. The size and colorfulness of the painting create a special atmosphere in the sunshine, especially in the morning and evening. In the 1980s, the roof and facade were renovated, and later the organ was given a general overhaul.
