Johanneskirche Manfort, Leverkusen
Facts and practical information
St. John's Church was a Protestant house of worship in the Manfort district of Leverkusen. As one of the last buildings from the "emergency church program", which had been launched in the Federal Republic after World War II, the architect Otto Bartning planned the Protestant church in Manfort, which was consecrated in March 1954 and is now a listed building. It was the seat of the congregation of the same name in the Leverkusen Protestant Church District. On November 29, 2020, the Johanneskirche was deconsecrated. In the future, a neighborhood center with a youth club and a residential group for people with disabilities will be built on the site. The existing daycare center will also be expanded to accommodate up to 90 children. The whole project is scheduled for completion in 2022. The church itself will remain largely intact. This includes the facade, the gallery and the church windows.
