Facts and practical information
The Johanniterburg Kühndorf, later also called Kühndorf Castle, was built in 1315 by the Order of St. John on the remains of a predecessor castle as a fort consisting of broad towers and was expanded by the Counts of Henneberg to become their last residence. Since 1991 the castle has been renovated with private funds and can be visited. The Johanniterburg Kühndorf is the only private object of the Castle Road Thuringia.
