Facts and practical information
St. Thomas Church is an Evangelical Lutheran church in Hörnum on the island of Sylt. It was built in 1969-1970 according to the design of the Niebüll architect Martin Bernhard Christiansen. A dune on Oberer Dünenweg was chosen as the site, next to the pastorate that was already there. Before that, a temporary shanty church existed outside the village. Today, the Wadden Sea Protection Station is housed there. St. Thomas has been a listed building since 1997. It is thus the youngest church in Schleswig-Holstein to be listed.
